Christmas Fling

2 Dec

Pattern: Spring Fling by April Moreland
Yarn: the same Christmasy ILTY worsted weight
Hook: H

I am so happy with this square! It is large and in charge of my Christmas Afghan, forming the center square for the other 12″ squares.
To enlarge the square to about 24″, I did this:
Hdc – green
Sc – burgundy
Hdc – green
V stitches – 2rows – white
granny stitches -3 rows – multi
Dc-ch3-dc – white
Dc with some fpdc – 3 rows – burgundy

It will need another round of something when I put this ‘ghan together, but I’ll figure that out when I get there.

Christmas Sun Pillow

Christmas Sun Pillow

Happily crocheting along, I notice that the center pooks out too much for my liking, so I double check the pattern and my stitches. Aha, I am using an H hook says I and I should be using an I hook. So, I set this one aside and grab the I hook; begin again.

OK, less pooking, but its getting too big, too fast. Scrutinize pattern and my stitches again. Aha, what do you know — it was supposed to be an H hook after all. So I set aside the I hook block and finish the H hook block. All turns out well with that one and the pookiness is less noticeable with the weight of more rows.

Now, what to do with my I hook block? I abhor frogging. Pillows forms calling from my yarniverse in the corner. *heeey, what about us* Hey, I had a great idea: why don’t I make a matching Christmas pillow with one of those pillow forms I bought a year ago for some long forgotten project. ┬áSo, side one of my Christmas pillow completed and still undecided about what to do for the back side.

And so you’ll know what a circular trip this really was….the pattern calls for an I hook. I try to do most of my squares w/an H hook because it is my favorite and just because.

BAMCAL & WIP progress

5 Jan

So it begins…..the Ravelry 2010 Block-A-Month Crochet-A-Long in my Christmasy colors. This year’s yarns are:
I Love This Yarn – aubergine, midgreen, and ivory.
I Love This Yarn – cranapple stripe (I fell in love with this yarn and had to have it….still lovin’ it)
I might even sneak in a bit of pink here and there, just for fun.

Jan 2010BAMCAL - 12"
Not a very exciting square, but OK…especially in my beautiful cranapple yarn.

EZee-Vzee Granny Square by James Davis – this is an archived pattern, posted on Ravelry.
ILTY
H hook
Notes: Added a sc border to bring it up to 12″ and changed the joins so that they meet in the corner.
An easy & quick pattern to work.
Rounds of sc or hdc can be worked in to add heft, although surprisingly it’s not a terribly flimsy square.

Jan 2010BAMCAL - 6"
This is a 6″ square that I crocheted just to be crocheting something and I grabbed the yarn closest to me…..go ahead, call me lazy. The shoe certainly fit that day! I like the square and colors, so I will probably keep making these 6″ squares in my patriotic colors and we’ll see where it goes.

Little Dahlia by Chris Simon – visit her website, YarnCrazy for the pattern
ILTY Ombre -Freedom
Vanna’s Choice – Colonial Blue
H Hook

Notes: Not the easiest or best written pattern for me. Not sure what my problem was because I generally find Chris Simon’s patterns some of the best.
No changes.

Oh yes…..that brings me to WIP progress. Let’s just say I’ll get back to ya on that, although I’m caught up on the BAMCAL and it’s only the 4th. teehee

GoodYarn News! I have a shipment on the way………… oops, laundry is beeping……
