Christmas Grannies

It’s hard to take decent pictures lately with all this dreary weather. OF course, the dreary weather keeps me inside and playing with yarn and there’s nothing bad about that!
These are all made with the same I Love This Yarn by Hobby Lobby and an H hook.

Enough Love to Go Around

First up is Enough Love to Go Around by Penny Davidson. It is indeed quite beautiful and perfect for anything Christmas, but I must warn you, this pattern will likely test your patience. The original pattern is not easily followed, although I didn’t particularly find any of the rewrites much better. Looking closely at the photos of others’ squares helped, a LOT. I was not happy with the end result until I blocked it.

Anticipation

This square was part of a mystery CAL with this Ravelry group and the pattern is now posted for free. I must admit that there was a learning curve for me on this one and I had to rework several different areas to get it right. The surface crochet was worked with an I hook, otherwise the rest was worked with an H hook. It’s very detailed, pretty, 3D and will be a lovely addition to my Christmas afghan. This one is called Anticipation. The square would look much better with blocking and another round or two, but it is right at 12″. It won’t matter once it is joined though.

Cute as a Button

Now for something a little easier: Cute as a Button
This is another reliable pattern from Donna aka SmoothFox and there are plenty of pictures in the pattern to help. She is one of the first places I go when searching for square patterns.

Happy Hooking Ya’ll

Christmas Fling

2 Dec

Pattern: Spring Fling by April Moreland
Yarn: the same Christmasy ILTY worsted weight
Hook: H

I am so happy with this square! It is large and in charge of my Christmas Afghan, forming the center square for the other 12″ squares.
To enlarge the square to about 24″, I did this:
Hdc – green
Sc – burgundy
Hdc – green
V stitches – 2rows – white
granny stitches -3 rows – multi
Dc-ch3-dc – white
Dc with some fpdc – 3 rows – burgundy

It will need another round of something when I put this ‘ghan together, but I’ll figure that out when I get there.

On The Hooks

Holiday Ornaments by Lisa Gentry, which you can see if you join the Lisa Gentry Ravelry group.

IMG_3044Christmas Stocking for my youngest, who has never liked the fact that his stocking isn’t “personalized”, and rightfully so. This isn’t exactly the pattern I am using, but it’s still from Coats & Clark and it’s free. The pattern I am working from is in October 2008’s Crochet World magazine.

The annual crocheted coat hangers. This year they are going to the boys’ piano teacher. Her favorite color is peach….do you know how hard it is to find peach colored yarn? I hope these will do.

Bull’s Round Ripple is in a deep state of hibernation. ZzZzzz.  Had to wake it up for the photo. I’m thinking another round of blue, a round of navy, 5-7 rounds of brown then top it off w/a round & a border of the camo stripe. I want it big so he can use it for a long, long time.

Nephew’s Flannelghan is coming along and would come along a lot faster, if I could just make myself finish it. Argh! One more strip, stitch them together, and add a couple border rows before I call it quits on this one. IMG_3046

I am thinking of joining a Block/Square A Month Keepsake blanket CAL/KAL, on Ravelry, that will start in January. I already have some yarn for this, but I’m also wanting to make a Lace & Bobbles afghan.
