more on Dishcloths

1 Jun

I have finished or at least am working on the dishcloth patterns that I listed in my previous post. (except the sunflowers pattern)

My favorite no-frill dishcloth is still the HDC dishcloth on the back of the Peaches & Cream label. I don’t know why I can’t find this delightfully simple pattern online. If you need a no-brainer project that fits easily in your purse or tote….this is it.

Circles Dishcloth I’m just now getting the hang of this one. It is going to be a good-looking cloth, but it is too large @ 11″.

Easy Crocheted Dishcloth Because this one is worked in flo/blo it is stretchy. Not sure I want stretchy, although worked in single crochet, it might be ok.

Another Round Dishcloth Pretty but no cigar….too holey.

FireBlossom – I still love this one.

Dishcloths are at their best when they are solid enough for the job, yet not so dense that they won’t hang dry very well. Half Double Crochets are perfect. The cotton yarns say not to bleach. I have used bleach on my dishcloths for years and they are holding up OK. Yes, the colors fade, but I’m going for sanitary here. I also use white vinegar in my wash quite often….which, I hear tell, is equally effective as bleach, as a disinfectant and a deodorizer, and a kinder, gentler alternative.

I have a lot of cleaning rags already, so this project is not soon-coming, but I’ll make basic plain white cleaning rags. That way they are easily discernible from my dishcloths and I can bleach the fire out of ’em.
